My first pint of the day, delivered direct to my microbes 

Everybody's different and we all need to approach and deal with our daily dietary needs in our own uniquely different way.


This is my Daily Raw Vegetable Rocket

I use a juice extractor with a single auger, like those found in a millstone for best results, as a blender will reduce the quality of  the enzymes in raw foods with its centrifugal force.



All chosen for their anti-cancer,  antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

All fresh and raw and chopped into small or long enough pieces to be easily fed into the extractor and mulched.  

Choose from:

2 large  or 3 medium carrots

I large red pepper

5 large slices of ginger root

2 medium  or cherry tomatoes

3 Broccoli stems

3 Asparagus stems

2 large celery sticks

1 4 inch long section of cucumber

1 small Garlic clove

3 hefty fork fulls of  Sauerkraut

A variety of herbs - Dill, Mint, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme.

6 large raw Turmeric root shavings.

A good dose of ground black pepper.

1 capfull (the cap of the bottle)  of Apple Cider Vinegar.

Hand stir the pepper into the juice and drink slowly over a period of  fve to ten minutes.  Never leave standing for too long as the effect of the juices lessens over time through oxidisation.


A great way to start the day and followed up by most of what I do for the remainder of the day....

Is Functional Medicine Here to Stay?

Not only is Functional Medicine here to stay, it is poised to be the centerpiece in one of the most significant shifts in the health and medical paradigm in the past one hundred years.  For anyone who has been paying attention, there has been a virtual war going on between Conventional/Allopathic Medicine and Functional/Natural Medicine since the early 1900s.  In fact, this virtual war often became a real war when the medical establishment would attack and try to discredit chiropractors, naturopaths, homeopathy practitioners and those who made or distributed nutritional supplements.


Functional/Natural Medicine has been gaining increasing scientific credibility, according to this sample of recent studies:


A study by the British medical journal Lancet Oncology found that Functional Medicine was able to stop and reverse hypertension, obesity, heart disease, and prostate cancer.

A study by the Institute of Medicine found that scientifically proven conventional treatments, combined with meditation, yoga, acupuncture, and herbal medicine, proved to be both medically and cost-effective.

The National Institutes of Health conducted a meta-analysis entitled "Health Cost Effectiveness of Natural Health Products: A Systematic Review of Randomized Clinic Trials" and found positive health outcomes with cost savings up to 73% for natural products, compared to conventional treatments.


No one is suggesting that everything about Conventional Medicine is bad and should be changed without cause.  Acute care in the form of operations is pretty good and saves many lives every year.  Some operations do not have a very good track record, such as angioplasty, and there is scientific evidence to support 20-25% of what Conventional Medicine does.  What we need is a true integration of these two forms of medicine, by taking the best of both and combining them to make a medical system that truly saves lives and prevents as much illness, suffering, and excessive spending as possible.  The direction has been clearly laid out.  All we need is someone like Mahatma Gandhi to step out in front of the change and lead the way. more...
